This just in from VTech DFA applicant, Michael Kulikowski. Michael, an architecture student, happens to be doing an internship in Chicago with Perkins + Will. Michael paid DFA’s office a visit and we were thrilled to meet in person learn more about his background and why hokies might  be a good fit for DFA. Here’s what he shared with us below! We look forward to receiving their application next month! For other schools interested- please sign up here to get started! A person from our DFA team will give you a ring and walk you through this year’s applications. Part 1 is due DECEMBER 2nd!!

I’m very excited about DFA and can’t wait to get this project rolling.  There is really a lot of fantastic work going on at Virginia Tech and I think that DFA will be a tremendous opportunity for us to elevate our ideas to the next level with implementation and sort of take us out of the introversion of academic design exercises by involving others in our community.  I see excellent potential in the things that DFA at VT could achieve and the kind of output we could produce working with you all as platform and the support you can provide.

The project I was telling you all about earlier, Vole, which some of my best friends worked on last year, captures the essence of the vision that I have for DFA at Virginia Tech and will be a great precedent for us to build off of.  Here is a video about it. They received an award and are currently working with Eastman to further the project.  Ed Dorsa, the professor who speaks at the end, is one of the faculty I’m looking to get involved with DFA.  The 3 guys in this video, though will be graduating this year, I think will be integral in helping to lay the foundation for the program this spring.

I’m looking forward to what’s ahead – Thanks again!
Thanks Michael!!
